Dear Purduers:

The next event on the Club Calendar is:

THE ANNUAL PURDUE-INDIANA OLD OAKEN BUCKET PARTY

SATURDAY – NOVEMBER 23, 2002
NAPLES BEACH HOTEL & GOLF CLUB

LIGHT LUNCH AT 11:00 AM – KICKOFF 12:10 PM

COST $20 PER PERSON – CASH BAR

The game this year will be the 105th on the gridiron with the Hoosiers since 1891.  Since the early 70’s we have had a joint meeting with the Indiana Club of Southwest Florida for a broadcast, or telecast, of this historic rivalry.  We have a replica of the Old Oaken Bucket  which is retained by the winning team club.  It is our desire to regain possession of the Bucket for the Purdue Club of Southwest Florida come November 23rd.  We hope you will join in the fun and support the Purdue Club cheering section for the 2002 Bucket Party.  Round up some Purdue friends to come with you and then send in the reservation form on page 3 ASAP.  If you have any questions, phone Event chairman John Harvey (239) 213-9203.

PURDUE-OHIO STATE FOOTBALL GAME TO KICK OFF AT NOON

The Big Ten Conference has announced that the Purdue-Ohio State  football game on November 9, 2002 in West Lafayette will kick off at noon EST.  The game will be televised by ABC with Brent Musburger, former Purdue quarterback Gary Danielson and Jack Arute doing the play-by-play and color commentary.

We regret to advise The Big Ten Golf Tournament & Dinner which was scheduled for Sunday, December 1, 2002, has been canceled.  The reason for this, according to Tournament Chairman Gene Fraley of the Ohio State Club, is lack of a corporate sponsor.  Fraley is hopeful there will be another Big Ten Tournament in 2003.

2003 CLUB EVENTS

We have some great programs scheduled for 2003.  (1) Our Annual Meeting Dinner is Wednesday Evening, January 22nd at Cypress Lake Country Club in Ft. Myers.  The Main Speaker will be William E. Bindley, a 1962 Purdue graduate and now Chairman and CEO of Bindley Capital Corporation in Indianapolis.  He recently made a very generous donation to Purdue---in fact it is the largest individual contribution ever received by Purdue.  Bill and his wife Mary Ann are now building a new home in Naples and, we are proud to have them as the newest members of the Purdue Club of Southwest Florida.  (2) The 27th Annual Mollenkopf Classic is scheduled Monday, February 10th at Quail West Country Club in North Naples.  President Martin Jischke, Athletic Director Morgan Burke and Coach Joe Tiller will be guest speakers.  (3) Our Winter Dinner will be at the Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club on Tuesday, March 18th.  With Purdue known as “The University of Astronauts” and the fact 2003 is the 100th Anniversary of Orville Wright’s first manned flight, we hope to have one of Purdue’s 21 Astronauts as our dinner speaker.  At the dinner we will have the best entertainment anywhere anytime with THE PURDUE VARSITY GLEE CLUB UNDER THE DIRECTION OF BRIAN BREED.  (4) For the “Purdue Day At The Phil” we have a block of excellent tickets for the Saturday. April 19th, matinee performance of the great Broadway Musical “42nd Street” at the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts.  (5) Our Annual Punta Gorda Luncheon will be on Monday, May 4th at the Isles Yacht Club.  Additionally we intend to have the The Purdue Family Picnic in June, The Purdue-Notre Dame Pre-game Luncheon on Wednesday, September 24th, and the Purdue-Indiana Bucket Party on November 22, 2003.

We hope current dues paying members listed on Page 2 will want to renew their membership for 2003.  Our club operates on a calendar year basis---dues paid through the end of this year will be applied to 2003 membership.  If you are not already a dues paying member, join us and have fun with the Purdue Gang.

Sincerely,

Ron Graves,
President

Ed Elliott,
Chairman of the Board
